I’ve been in the room.

Not only the conference room with the nice chairs and the carefully worded slide deck. The real room — where everyone knows something is broken and nobody will say it out loud because they're afraid of what happens if they do.

I spent over 15 years inside corporate marketing and communications before I left to build something of my own. I managed up. I watched internal politics quietly shape brands without anyone realizing it was happening. I learned what "the client always comes first" actually means when the pressure is on and what it looks like when it doesn't. I saw good people stay silent about real problems because the culture made honesty feel dangerous.

And eventually I got tired of it.

Not tired of the work, I love the work. Tired of environments that expected you to fit in a box, that said they cared about people and then threw their own partners under the bus. Tired of building things for people who didn't deserve the effort.

So I left. And I built something of my own.

Two things, actually.

Common Ground Co. is the strategic work, helping small businesses and organizations cut through the noise, find their actual voice, and build marketing that works because it's honest. It's the part of my career I've always loved most, finally pointed at people I actually want to help.

Amanda Neal Art is the other thing, a creative business I've built from scratch selling hand illustrated insect and animal art, wooden pins, shadowboxes, stickers, and coloring books. I run my own social media, my own email list, my own Etsy shop. I know what it feels like to stare at your analytics and get excited about a number that isn't actually moving the needle. I know what it's like to experiment with something new and have no idea if it's going to work. I know what showing up authentically actually costs and what it returns.

When I tell you that you don't have to show up polished, I know because I'm not doing that either.

When I tell you vanity metrics aren't the point, I know because I sometimes get excited about them myself and watched them go nowhere.

When I tell you that your marketing should sound like you and not everyone else, I know because I'm doing it in real time too, right alongside you.

I'm not going to hand you a framework and disappear. I'm going to sit with you in the actual reality of your business — the messy parts, the broken parts, the parts nobody has been honest with you about yet — and help you figure out what's actually going on and what to do about it.

That's the work. That's why I do it.

If that sounds like what you've been looking for, let's talk.
